Dr. Kristine MacDiarmid, Optometrist

Originally from Miramichi, New Brunswick, Dr. MacDiarmid joined the Merivale Vision Care team in 1996. She started her bachelor of Science at the University of New Brunswick before completing her Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo.

Dr. MacDiarmid loves meeting new patients of all ages and helping them solve their eye problems. She enjoys providing comprehensive eye care to children and since adapting to her first progressive lens is especially passionate about workplace eyestrain.

Dr. MacDiarmid is a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists, the Ontario Association of Optometrists and the Ottawa Society of Optometrists. She is an active local mom who enjoys playing hockey and ringette and helping out with her daughter’s ringette and basketball teams.

Dr.MacDiarmid enjoys a busy fast paced practice, she employs state of the art diagnostic technology and offers excellent vision product knowledge. She believes in a collaborative approach to vision care. Her vision care services include:

  • Digital anterior segment imaging
  • Cataract and laser surgery co-management
  • Digital retinal imaging

  • Prescription eye glasses & sunglasses for men, women and children

When should I get my eyes checked?

Any changes in the status of your vision or concerns about the health of your eyes should be examined by a Doctor of Optometry.

To maintain healthy eyes Canadian population studies have lead to the following recommendation:

Group Age Frequency
Infants and toddlers Birth-24 months 1st eye exam between 6 & 9 months of age
Preschool Children Ages 2-5 At least one eye exam ideally at age 3
School aged children Ages 6-19 Yearly eye exams
Adults Ages 20-64 Every 2 years
unless we are monitoring an eye disease or
contact lenses are worn,
in those cases yearly exams are recommended
Seniors Ages 65 and over Should have their eye checked yearly
